I came with this idea after a religious topic on FB. It seems like you can quote and counterquote bible fragments for everything. For example, this is for DB: Romans 13:7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Wow! Love the topic title, love the idea! :D Please tell me there's a website to make it easier? I can't be arsed to read the bible... :S

I tried searching for 'bible true' and got nothing back. I suppose that'd be a bit too much circular reasoning even for the bible. (Actually, just 'bible' doesn't come back with anything either - which kinda makes sense since the bible didn't exist until after all the fictional gospels had been written, then picked and chosen at random to make-up the bible (even if lots of it was invented/tweaked even later)). I had a horrendous, impromptu science vs. nonsense debate with someone in front of a group of people today. Some people's minds are so open that their brains are in danger of falling out.

"Some people's minds are so open that their brains are in danger of falling out." You know Tim Minchin, right?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBUc_kATGgg :D

@Thelevellers: The online paralell Bible search engine is perfect for this task: http://bible.cc/

@Lee J Haywood: Someone on FB cited Colossians 2:8 "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." It is just one of several safe heavens for denial provided in the scriptures. Believers have invested lots of emotional value on religion, so they will defend it to unreasonably and unbelievable extents.

@Thelevellers: O, BTW, John 16:24 "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." Dang, this is fun.

@BorgClown: I'll be impressed if you can find strong quotes which denounce religion and faith. @Thelevellers: 'tis a very old quote. Tim writes good stuff, but I'm not sure I like the guy himself.

@Lee J Haywood: Check these out: James 1:26 "If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless." Colossians 2:18 "Don't let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud"

@BorgClown: Hmm, the first one is good but it seems to have a caveat that makes its meaning unclear. The second has an even vaguer meaning.

@Lee J Haywood: It's as close as you can get, most attacks of religion by the bible are based on the premise that they're not Christian.

Kinda fun. As I've said, religion is a too easy target.

According to the comments from theists, the problem is that the video misinterprets the parts that it quotes and takes them out of context. Funny argument, that.

I was thinking about who I'd share this with - which theists. But of course the problem is that no-one really 'reads' the bible - i.e. no-one can ever claim to understand it in a convincing way. It's not an easy target, it's a moving target.
