OpinionUsing 800x600VGA resolution on a laptop these days is inhuman.

My laptop's NVidia card just died, leaving me with a widescreen VGA LCD panel. It's cool to be able to use it while the part is being ordered, but damn, it's cruel. Almost all apps and webpages assume a high-resolution screen.

It's nice to see the site cope so well with the low resolution, as it ought to do with its relative layout. It's unfortunate that it doesn't look good with 1024×768 which I also consider an 'inhuman' resolution but which the majority still use.

@BorgClown: Haha, after many years of unhappiness my graphics card has completely died today. Amazingly I've put in a card from my old, dead PC from 1994 and it actually works. But the maximum resolution is... 800×600! If you think it's inhuman on a laptop, try it on a PC with a 19" monitor. Oh my, it's really horrible but at least I've got a semblance of Internet access but I think a new card is in order ASAP.

Went and bought a new laptop. 1366x768 screen, WTF LOL It's actually nice to see DNR fill so much horizontal screen real state, I really don't mind the 32 pixels lost from my former laptop.

I'm gonna send the previous one to a Sony Service Center, I think it is covered by the NVidia GPU packaging failure. I hope so, the repair will be free, although surely with a refurbished motherboard. Looks like I should sell it, preferably to a less demanding user...

@Lee J Haywood: It's a guilty pleasure to know that you're coping with VGA resolution too, it's really nasty, even a recent Blackberry has VGA resolution.

Wow, just switched to 1024x768. I used to use it, and I can't believe I could ever stomach it... Curse you for putting the idea in my head tho Lee. DnR didn't like the resizing and it put the javascript into an infinite loop...

@Melchior: How do you know it was infinite? Did you wait for it to finish? I bet it was amusing to watch, although maybe I'd admit that it shouldn't do that.

Firefox threw the "script is taking too long" message. I clicked run anyway a few times and still nothing. If it wasn't infinite, it was definitely too long :p

Got a 1980x1080 external monitor. Added to the 1280x768 built-in laptop panel, now I feel the need to actually waste screen area.
