This is a sketch on 'That Mitchell and Webb Sound' on BBC radio 4 at the moment, sadly it is only available on the iPlayer atm, so only brits cn listen. The premise is simple enough though: Can you explain how your job is useful to a group of concerened old ladies? For example, this week was a wedding planner, answering the question 'so what is it you do?', 'and how does that help?' 'couldn't the cpouple do it themselves? I seem to remember I did'

Why do I agree if I can't hear it? Maybe because it has a "comedy" tag.

I guess most jobs are about saving other people time - even a wedding planner does that. If we all had to do everything ourselves, there wouldn't be enough time in the day to do other things. Douglas Adams had a good list of useless jobs though... http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluebus/3728529531/

@BorgClown: Well done for spotting that - it's key to the opinion! :) The thing I like about the sketches is that they do a very good job of pointing out just how little actual good t hey do, like the wedding planner pointing out the couples find it hard to make decisions with everyone else's opinion flying around, so they help by giving them theirs...! Ofcourse, the sketch always ends with the person concerned being talked into running 'a little shop', which isn;t so great... On a serious note I do like the idea of forcing people to think about what exactly they do for a living... Though speaking as an engineer it's easy for me to say, cause engineering is one area which is (largely) safe from such scrutiny!

Oh yes, engineering quite directly relates to a product, we're awesome =)
