@Thelevellers: Option added.

@Lee J Haywood: Chars :) Hmmm, I am gonna end up with a problem if there isn't an overall winner on votes - some options are considerably easier than others. Cheesecake vs croissant for example 15-30min prep vs 2hrs, but more like 36 with the wait between each section :S But croissant taste so good...

Cheesecake for then Basilisks! crumble digestive biscuits, mix with melted butter an sugar, squish into tin and chill in the fridge - that's ur base. Mix cream cheese, creme fraiche, maybe a lil sugar, and cheesecake flavour of your choice - I usually go lemon, or lemon and lime myself - then spread ontp of the base and fridge again for a couple of hours. Done. :D That said, scones and biscuits are pretty hard to get wrong too... :D I need more friends nearby to cook for, it's hard to summon the effort for myself :S

what is a digestive biscuit? sounds nasty.

@Thelevellers: I just buy a cake from Tesco. Takes few extra seconds, and doesn't require choosing individual ingredients, etc.

@DigitalBoss: Digestives are lovely! You can either dunk them in a lovely cuppa tea, or sread them with butter with a nice chunk of cheddar cheese on top, or maybe some honey... And of course you get the chocolate covered ones too... :D Cheap ones are worth avoiding in all cases, unless for use as a cheesecake base, where the added butter, sugar and cheesey goodness hide the lack of goodness in the biscuits... Damn, this is reminding me that I don't have any biscuits in :(

@Lee J Haywood: :O You heathen! They don't taste close to as good as any of my cakes... Even when my cakes go wrong! :P Also, I enjoy baking once I pull my finger out and do it... :)

I just like the sound of "scones", I don't even know what those are.

Scones are amazing! They are basically just selfraising flour, milk, butter and sugar, like little bread/cakes, and you have them with clotted cream (extra extra thick stuff, like more of a solid than liquid) and strawberry jam on sunday afternoon for tea! Best food ever, especially as you can always initiate conversation/argument with the scone/scone debate... (some say it 'skon' [like me, these people are correct], some say it 'skoan' [these people are wrong]) :D

Sound like my thing, I love filled or topped breads. Have you tried empanadas? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empanada They're like a firm wheat tortilla filled with fruit (or almost anything) halved and sealed. They can be fried or baked. The baked ones are the best.

Sounds good... I love tortilla type things... :)

Incidentally Borg, you know what a pasty is? Cause empandas sound like the spanish speaking world's equivalent! Pastry is gooooood... :)

Yeah, they even look the same. Can they be filled with fruit too?

They COULD, strictly speaking, but as their history is connected to Cornish tin miners, it would probably be frowned upon as not manly enough... :P We do make fruit pies, same pastry, but big and round, more like a cake size from which you have slices, instead. For mini fruity snacks my favourite pastry would have to be a decent apple turnover - about two-three inches of puff pasty with stewed apple in the middle, and sometimes whipped cream too... Scrumptious! :)

"not manly enough" "fruity snacks" Ok, my food is gay, but I still love it.
