I was about to say 'do unto others', but actually, that's bollocks cause if I treated my current housemate as I am happy to be treated I think I would be out on my ear in a week... :) Maybe 'Have respect for others' would cover most things if thought through properly?

My fundamental rule has always been to do the greatest good for the most people, so other rules are derivatives of that. In reality, I also try to do good things for animals and even the planet itself so there are plenty of extensions. I particularly like the attempt to apply logic in Kant's categorical imperative. It shows that morality can be purely rational, but ultimately you have to take each case as it's presented to you and do the best you can. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categorical_imperative

Rule #1: Do not be an asshole. Rule #2: Rule 1 has no exceptions.

Just found this, dunno if it's been linked before, but i had forgotten all about it... http://www.sacredriver.org/582/dawkins-ten-commandments Looks pretty good to me, if a little long - who needs ten?! :P

@Thelevellers: There's a bit of overlap in there, but it's not bad. Unfortunately, after I posted this topic I forgot what I'd planned to say in it - I hate it when that happens. (:

@Bensci: What's the benefit of number 2? It hasn't got anything to do with morality.
