SurveyIf there was a brain surgery capable of suppressing your emotions while leaving all other intellectual aspects intact, would you take it?

Emotions are a cool evolutionary baggage, but they can really clog the rational side of life.

I started suppressing my emotions when I was about 12, and there's not much of an issue with it when you're at school. But once you become an adult you need to be emotional for a lot of reasons, particularly forming relationships and fostering trust. Emotions also underpin your memories and your reaction to stress. If you want to truly understand yourself, you need to understand your emotional state - because even if you're not aware of them, you always have them.

The government will tell you when you can express your emotions.

Neat, I tried to suppress my emotions too. I figure all boys want to be though guys. It turns out that you can't suppress them, they just bottle up. As you say, it's better to understand yourself and realize when are you prone to become emotional and prepare for it.

@DigitalBoss: No, my hypothetical surgery is irreversible. Once you lose your emotions, the won't come back, even if Obama tries to dazzle you with his awesomeness.

I enjoy my emotions, there's nothing I like more than curling up with Tom Mcrae on and some nom food and feeling depressed... And then I love the super hyper happy feeling that live music gives me - on a major one of them atm as my Blur live CD has finally arrived (the only kind of live album I like - the recording of the gig I was at! :D), and I'm going to see The Offspring in London tomorrow! :D *jumps around his new bedroom* Oh, and forming decent relationships is cool, sadly lacking in them atm though, even platonic ones :S
