My current mobile is a Nokia 3600 Slide, which I chose because it doesn't have an exposed keypad and it was cheap (£85 from Tesco) - since I don't make many calls nor send many texts. http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-3600-slide I'd like to do some development for a smart 'phone, but they're expensive to run. The HTC Magic appears to require a £600 contract for 2 years which would mean writing a game and selling it around 1,000 times to recoup the cost of the device before starting to make a profit...

I had a Nokia N91, a bulky, rugged metal hulk which I loved. http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-n91 Then my wife gave me a Blackberry 7800, whom I love in a different sense. The OS is much better than Symbian (in security and usability), and the apps are cooler. There's much less piracy for BBs though. http://www.blackberry.com/products/handhelds/demos/8700g_generic/8700g_generic.html

Mmmh, the phones look way sexier on flash...

The N95 and N96 are certainly well-respected. I'm not sure if I've actually seen a Blackberry in the UK - perhaps one, but they don't seem especially popular here.

I fail, mine is an 8800, not a 7800. BBs apparently get uglier each generation, function over form I suppose.

I used to have an N91! Loved it and all it's twisty awesome... Right up until I poured pancake mix in my pocket... :( But looking at that link it must have been the old model or something...? (somethign like me mis-remembering the name!) I currently have a nice 6500... crucially for me a 3.2MP camera with carl Zeiss lens (makes the 3.2 better than a lot of 5MP camera phones!). Sadly it's responsible for bankrupting me, as I got it on contract when I talked and texted my (now ex)gf a lot, she dumped me within 6months of getting it... Still, pics are good (http://picasaweb.google.com/rohan.chadwick), and I get an upgrade to sell in a coupel of months... I've got too used to free calls n texts to give it up now :S And I'll have a job soon... :)

@Thelevellers: Those pictures do have good focus and brightness, but they suffer from a lot of noise as with all mobile telephones. I always have a separate camera that's small enough to go in the same pocket as my mobile, and now I've got my 12 megapixel super CCD. http://discussionator.com/Blue_dragonfly.jpg (4 MB)

I always forget cameras if they are seperate to my phone! My phone always goes for contact/ticket info, even googlemaps on occasion! But cameras that are only cameras tend to get left at home :S That is a REALLY impressive pic... I was aiming for something like that with a huge grasshopper I found the other day, b ut I think I will be dissappointed when I finally get it full size on a computer... :S

Almost everyone I know has a big, bulky camera that they leave at home and only get to use for a few shots on holiday or whatever. Not to mention being quite expensive for saying they don't get used much. My camera, on the other hand, is always small enough that I'm never without it - either for taking pictures or just showing people what I've already shot with it. It's amusing that you mentioned grasshoppers - I just took my first pictures of a grasshopper this morning! I'd be interested to know which you think is the best angle. http://discussionator.com/Grasshopper_1.jpg http://discussionator.com/Grasshopper_2.jpg http://discussionator.com/Grasshopper_3.jpg

I think 2 is best for seeing the grasshopper, though 3 is a cool angle, I think I may prefer it as a picture, if you get me? :)

I have a little Nokia bar phone, which came with my iPhone and works infinitely better.

Grasshoppers are useless if you forgot to bring the pokéball.

Two and three are better. Two wins because there are more details in it. Yeah, go pamper the baby locusts, what could go wrong?
