My file currently indexes 8,192 tracks (hmm, just a coincidence that that's 0x2000) - not counting audio books, etc.

My library consists of 5753 files, though I'm in the middle of a purge and that includes a couple of story 'tapes'... :)

I was speaking with a schoolgirl on a group walk a short time ago, and she thought her collection of 1,500 or so songs was impressive. The fact is, you keep on adding tracks year after year and it just gets more and more unmanageable. How much worse it would be if you started with music from the Internet from the beginning.

I'm not at home, so can't give an exact figure, but based on the rough number of CDs that I've got (they've all been ripped), and using an average of 11 tracks each, between 5,400 and 6,000. Haven't yet got round to ripping my vinyl albums. Actually when I get round to it, I'll probably just 'steal' them from somewhere online, since I don't see it as music theft if you already own a record and then obtain the MP3s that someone's ripped from the CD version of the same album.

24k tracks. Little over a hundred gigs of music. I know a good bulk of them. I can sing the melody of basically every random song on there. My life is music. Thats why I went in to engineering... wah wah wah...

Yes, a big problem with knowing the songs in your collection is that it makes it difficult to part with them. You cannot delete anything, and keep adding, so your collection becomes so vast that it takes years to play it all and you miss out on the option of hearing the best music more frequently.

@basilisks It scares me how many songs I know the lyrics to... There's 80% of the music on my computer, and then about the same amount again of random (often hated) pop music... Brains are weird and wonderful things - I still can't remember all my immediate family's birthdays! lol...

With most of my music, especially the metal, the lyrics cannot be deciphered simply by listening. But it's a long, long time since I had the time and patience to sit down to learn the written lyrics and the task is overwhelming now that I have so much...

Oh I've never tried to learn much, I just pick it up as I go, especially if I learn to play the song on guitar... Though I suppose I do sometimes look up lyrics I consistently think I mishear... Some bands I don't bother to try though - like a lot of System of a Down (the insightful 'banana banana banana terracotta' lines spring to mind!).

Less than 3000 songs in my collection, and some of them are scheduled for deletion. I've been told that my music tends to age as I do.
